Which documents are necessary to rent a car?

Valid Driver's License: Make sure your driver's license is up-to-date and has not expired. This applies to all additional drivers too. The driver's license must use Latin characters.

Payment Card: A valid credit or debit card with a 16-digit number is required. Please ensure adequate funds are available.

Proof of Identity: A valid government-issued ID or passport is required.

Minimum period: The minimum rental period is 24 hours.

One-day surcharge: A one-day rental includes a 50% surcharge. From 2 days onward, standard daily rates apply.

Example: Daily rate €100 — 1 day = €150 · 2 days = €200.

Unlimited mileage: All rentals include unlimited mileage at no extra cost.

VAT: 24% VAT is included in all prices.

Standard insurance (STANDARD): All rentals include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Super Accident Damage Waiver (SADW).

No deposit required: In most cases no deposit is required. However, the Company reserves the right to request a security deposit at its discretion.

Debit cards accepted: We accept debit cards with a 16-digit number. In exceptional cases please contact us via phone, email, or live chat.

STANDARD — included in all rentals: Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), Super Accident Damage Waiver (SADW). Excess fee: up to €3,500 in case of damage.

ZERO — full coverage upgrade: All STANDARD coverage plus Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), Gravel Protection (GP), and Theft Protection (TP). Excess fee: €0.

Online booking: Credit or debit card payment is required for online bookings.

Accepted cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover & Diners Club, Japan Credit Bureau (JCB), China UnionPay (CUP), eftpos Australia.

Office hours: Monday–Sunday 08:00–18:00.

Pickup, drop-off & customer service: Available 24/7.

Availability: Yes, 24/7.

Fees (if caused by driver): Base call-out fee: ISK 30,000 (≈ €209). Per km (one way only): ISK 390/km (≈ €2.70/km).

If caused by Auro ICE Car Rental: Assistance is free and the vehicle will be replaced.

Minimum age: 18 years old.

Driving experience: A valid driver's license held for at least 12 months is required for all drivers regardless of age.

Young Driver Fee: If the license has been held for less than 12 months, a Young Driver Fee of €25/day applies.

Free cancellation: Available up to 48 hours before pickup.

Less than 48 hours: No refund. Please contact us — we handle each case individually.

No-show: No refund.

Grace period: 29 minutes.

After 3 hours: A full additional day charge applies.

No notice: The vehicle may be reported as unlawfully retained.

Prohibited use: Off authorized roads (unless 4x4 and explicitly permitted), restricted highland roads without permission, river crossings, outside Iceland without written consent, racing or competitions, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, by unauthorized drivers.

Consequence: Violation voids insurance coverage and results in full liability.

One-way fee: A one-way fee of €50 applies when the vehicle is picked up at one location and dropped off at a different location (airport, cruise terminal, hotel, or any location outside our Reykjavik office).

No fee applies when:

  • Vehicle is picked up and returned to our Reykjavik office.
  • Rental period is 7 days or longer.

Pickup & drop-off locations: We deliver and collect vehicles at Keflavik International Airport, Reykjavik cruise terminal, and hotels within the Reykjavik area.

Fee: A one-way service fee of €50 applies. No fee for rentals of 7 days or longer.

Availability: 24/7.

Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in all vehicles. Violation results in a mandatory cleaning fee of ISK 60,000–80,000 (approximately €420–€560).

Campervans are delivered fully equipped: bedding sets (pillows, duvets, sheets), kitchenware and cookware, tableware, gas tank with camping stove, portable grill, camping furniture, mini fridge/electric cooler, Webasto heating system, and electrical accessories. All equipment must be verified at pickup — any discrepancies must be reported before departure.

The campervan must be returned clean and tidy. All dishes washed and dried, grill cleaned, fridge emptied and dry, all waste removed, equipment stored in designated locations, and interior reasonably clean. Additional cleaning fees apply if these conditions are not met.

Yes. Gas equipment must be used safely and according to instructions provided at handover. Never use gas equipment inside enclosed spaces. Always close gas valves when not in use. The grill must be returned clean — failure to clean results in a mandatory ISK 12,000 fee.

Campervans are equipped with a Webasto heating system designed for safe interior heating. Operate according to provided instructions, use approved fuel only, and never obstruct air vents. Improper use or battery depletion caused by the heater will result in a service fee of ISK 15,000.
